Kids going to school while visiting the U.S.?

We are hoping that my GF and her daughter can reside in the U.S. with me between May 1 and October 31st next year without returning to Canada. The dates would be adjust if necessary to insure they weren't here more than 6 months in the calendar year. Outside those dates, we would go to Canada or another Country until we could return to the U.S for possibly another 6 month stint. The idea is that this would all be going on while her and my divorce is going through. Once those are done and we can marry, then we would apply for a spousal visa for her.

My question is, if her child were to enroll in high school for 6 months while they are here...would that trigger something with CBP where it would look too much like they are living here? I don't want to run afoul of CBP and want to follow the rules so that we don't end up in a situation where my new family can't be here with me during the summer. My job only requires me to be here between May 1 and Oct 31 and then I can live anywhere in the world outside those months. So we need the daughter to be able to go to school during the summer here.

I'm looking for any and all advice and information that might help us avoid trouble. Thank you!

People who live in the US illegally could even send their children to school, so I don't THINK it is an issue. I will admit I do not 100% know. Great question.
