Crossing Over Under COVID

K SCOTTposted 4 years ago

Ok so one of our waiver clients crossed over to the USA at YVR and she said that she had no issues. She said that they asked fewer questions than if it were a land border. She returned to Canada today and apparently, CBSA told her to either complete a special form in regard to doing a quarantine/contact trace or download a special contract trace app on her phone. She declined the app and completed the form instead.

She has now started her 14-day quarantine. So yeah a #usentrywaiver client and an otherwise admissible person can still legally enter the USA for vacation purposes by aircraft at a Canadian preclearance Port of Entry. This is in case anyone has any interest in this topic.

@Michelle please note that I was talking about people entering the USA under the B-2 category only and what happened to them when they returned back to BC. It could also be a local BC thing since others have said the same thing about YVR. It is possible though that they may be enforcing things differently as per each Canadian border. I found this link right after I made the post here on the forum.

@jazzsax yeah perhaps they are more strict at BC land borders but who knows. I know for a fact that they are still giving out 5 year bans at the land borders though since one new client got one at Peach Arch because he made false statements that he was an essential worker and CBP discovered that he was indeed not one.

It is true that they may accept waiver paperwork again Aug 21 but we think it will get pushed back. My Surrey BC manager is telling me that he believes that they will reopen Sep 21 but we shall see. Our people keep wanting to travel and fly down on vacation or so. I am on the fence regarding this topic and now just direct them to the link.

We also do L-1 Visas and was told yesterday by Peach Arch that they are also not accepting any of these packets and such at the borders. They are still accepting TN Visa packets though at the border as we recently did 1 for a guy that is an Accountant. This is actually a good way for clients that want to be with their loved ones in the USA and can get a professional job offer.

usa has not really closed their border.... they are letting canadians in (I know of many who have went down). On the other hand, we have been pretty tough at our air borders.

Land borders? Shit show. US entrants can state they are travelling to Alaska and we can't stop them.... until we bust them in banff.

Would be nice if we could at least submit waiver paperwork even though the borders are closed. But hey... still have 78 days until my 5 years post conviction.

Still need to get opinions from John and Michelle. I have Ken's.... and he is curious to see if the other two opinions line up!

Michelle / John - I will try call both of you in the next week or two.

I have had a few clients travel to the USA for reasons other then vacation. Visiting family, business related. These ones have flown also.. and have not had any issues either. I have a few truck driver clients and same thing..no problems. None mentioned about the CBSA asking for what you mentioned, but things change daily. What is the new date that the border may open to waiver paperwork? is it the end of September now? Would like to hear any experiences from people on here.
