From what I've been told, i thought that a Canadian pardon was not accepted to cross the border.
I have never been denied entry into the US but i have a criminal record. Would a pardon be sufficient? This video seems to think so:
It should be.
Having said that, we live in what the singer/songwriter Paul Simon once called "the age of miracle and wonder." This means that in this day and technological age, you mustn't forget that there are many third party sources where there may have information about you. Google. Social media. Your laptop or smartphone, and whatever else they feel like checking upon inspection. The way you present yourself and your vehicle.
If they discover that you had a previous criminal record somehow, someway, or they bully you into admitting that you committed the essential elements of an offense, or some other backhanded way, and you are caught lying to a border guard, you have just committed a separate offense, and may be denied entry on the spot or worse.
So there are two schools of thought to this matter.
Here's some tips for do's and don'ts when crossing the border: I love the first one, "Shut Up."
