Just a reminder that tomorrow, December 16th is the last day to submit written comments on the proposed fee changes for many immigration related documents including Form I-192, Application for Advance Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant.
The current fee for Form I-192 is $585 USD when filed with and processed by CBP and $930 USD when filed with USCIS. In the proposal the fee will increase to $1,415 USD in one scenario and $1,350 USD in the second scenario. Cost recuperation seems to be the leading factor for the fee changes. According to the document over 69,500 I-192 waiver applications are handled each year.
More information is available here on the US Federal Register: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/11/14/2019-24366/us-citizenship-and-immigration-services-fee-schedule-and-changes-to-certain-other-immigration
The bottom line is that the USA government fees for immigration services are continually increasing anyway so we can expect fee increases. We may get some relief...but it is inevitable that they will go up anyway. This is the nature of USCIS. People should expect that this will happen and all the more reason to see if a person will qualify for the lifetime clearance if possible. I suspect that no one wants to pay thousands of dollars over a lifetime for a waiver if they can avoid it.
@Jazzsax1, I definitely think that a fee increase is on the way, with the comment period extension, I agree with John, probably in February. The problem you face Jazz, is getting all your paperwork together before February. Even if you start today, depending on your file, and the paperwork needed, you might not have your application ready.
As an American immigration lawyer, keep in mind there are other voices opposed to these fee increases. Canadians are not the only ones who utilize the I-192 waiver application. That said, the fee changes are likely to go ahead as this administration is hell-bent on underfunding these agencies. Your best bet as a Canadian is to apply pressure to your local MP. The comment period was extended to December 30
