Truck Driver at the Peace Bridge (Buffalo) got waiver "extended".

J Rogersposted 3 years ago

I had a call from one of my many Truck Driving clients today. He was crossing at the Peace Bridge. He had only 2 days left on his waiver. They called the Supervisor and he told him they had been "directed" by Homeland Security to "extend" the waiver but giving them a new "I-94 card". When he crossed again, he is to show his expired waiver, and his card. The supervisor told him he had a directive in "writing". The client was assured this was supposed to be at ALL ports.

I am just putting this out there, and when this client crosses again, he will update me if it worked or not.

He said it was made clear to him that it was given BEACUSE his waiver still had a couple do days on it.

Before I post anything, I ALWAYS ask enough questions to make sure what he is telling me seems accurate.

When I get MORE information, I will post it here immediately.

Just for people who don't follow the news, the US is in bad shape, and getting worse. Canada is also in the middle of increasing numbers, and it does not seem we have hit our peak yet. We actually had an "anti-mask" demonstration in Toronto. I am in favor of "human rights/freedoms" but it is getting to the point where we need to lock these people up for the duration of the pandemic. But the good news is I am advocating cramming them in a small room, and masks are OPTIONAL so they can exercise their "rights".

My prediction is April 2021 for the border being open. I hope I am completely wrong.

Replies (recent first):

I just spoke to a BC border just now to ask this question. The guard put me on hold to ask his supervisor, and he said yes that they will take a packet for an essential worker only. So it seems that the key is the person has to be deemed an essential worker. It also seems that some guards may not be familiar with the news.

I received this email direct from a US Custom Officer at a POE near here.

from guidance on 10/22/20,

I-192 & I-212: Collection of waiver applications is approved for essential travelers only.

“Essential” travelers are allowed to proceed, process normally.

Individuals engaged in lawful cross-border trade (e.g., truck drivers supporting the movement of cargo between the United States and Canada);
