Michigan Started expunging some criminal records on April 11 2023.
Does it work? A waiver client already checked and hers is gone.
@DT I have plenty of clients, Canadians who have a conviction(s) in the United States.
In the case of the person I wrote about, she grew up in a border town, was caught shoplifting in the US. I am in Brampton, VERY multi-cultural, so many of my clients lived in the US while awaiting asylum. Some, while there, also got criminal convictions.
Even if the expungement doesn't result in a client not needing a waiver, it will explain WHY we cannot get certain records from place like Michigan any longer, so it is relevant even after it is expunged.
Well this client applied for her new waiver, and she is the only 1 I have that was under this new law (It only came into effect in April.)
So when her results come in, I will update this thread. I ASSUME she will simply get another 5 year waiver. We obviously are hoping September Letter.
I will update this when we find out. It will be in the fall probably.
